A new visual novel took the internet by storm last month, and despite its April Fool’s Day release date, The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog isn’t a joke at all. The game stars many colorful characters from the franchise; besides these characters, the game stands in front with its soundtrack as well.
For a game that was conceived as an April Fool joke, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is actually quite good. It puts you in the deductive shoes of a new character (you can choose their default name) on board the helpfully named Mirage Express.
It’s a fancy train that happens to be the location for Amy Rose’s birthday party, which is also where things go wrong, and everyone ends up missing — including the birthday girl herself.
You’re tasked with unraveling the mystery, a process which involves investigating environments to find clues and questioning characters. It’s standard visual novel fare, with the game allowing you to pick and choose which questions to ask each person and helping you determine their motives as you progress through the story.
Despite all odds, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog has a script that is more sincere than you might anticipate from something that was made available on April 1 for free. You don’t have to pay anything to play this entertaining game, which also has fantastic art, a killer soundtrack, and lots of genuine laughs.
Speaking of the soundtrack, you can listen to The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog OST below. The game features some great songs in it.
